Right now, Nebraska is at the heart of something exciting. Interest in our state is growing, especially from companies tied to agriculture, manufacturing and emerging technologies. These businesses are looking to expand or establish themselves here, and many are choosing to do so within NPPD’s service territory. That’s not a coincidence.
For decades, we’ve delivered on our promise of low-cost, dependable power. Our consistent performance has made Nebraska not only a great place to live, but also a smart place to invest. As more companies look to plant roots here, we see real opportunities for the communities we serve, including new jobs, stronger local economies, and long-term revitalization of rural areas.
To support this growth, we’re embarking on a strategic program we call emPOWERING Nebraska’s Tomorrow. This program is our forward-looking commitment to ensure our state has the energy infrastructure needed to thrive. That means proactively planning for the future by building generation capacity and expanding transmission and distribution infrastructure as we evolve our energy mix to meet the diverse needs of both new and existing customers.
Let me be clear: Nebraska is not running out of electricity. We are responsibly, transparently and thoughtfully preparing for new demand. We’ve implemented a new load process that allows us to work with customers side-by-side to match their incoming energy needs with new generation capacity. It’s a measured approach, ensuring we’re adding the right resources at the right time, without compromising the reliability or affordability that defines public power.
We’re also being mindful of broader dynamics. Federal legislative developments like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) bring both opportunities and uncertainties. Projects and funding can shift quickly, and our job is to stay nimble, mitigating risk while remaining focused on what’s best for our customers.
Our approach emphasizes balance. We’re not building generation we don’t yet need, and we’re not putting stress on the grid where it doesn’t belong. We’re investing in a resilient system that serves everyone, from the smallest homes to the largest industrial facilities and agricultural endeavors.
